Since 1876, St. George’s Heritage Church has stood overlooking Brigus as a symbol of community, culture, and connection. Today, it needs your support to stand for generations to come.
For 150 years, St. George’s Church has been part of the fabric of Brigus.
Built in 1876, it served generations of families in Brigus and surrounding communities — a place for gathering, celebration, and life. When declining congregation numbers led to its closure in the early 2000s, there was a real risk that this historic building could be lost.
Instead, the community stepped in.
In 2003, local residents formed the St. George’s Heritage Committee and, through collective effort and fundraising, purchased the church to preserve it for future generations. Since then, it has remained an iconic Brigus landmark, perched on the hill overlooking the Atlantic.
This year marks the 150th anniversary of St. George’s Heritage Church in Brigus. We are committed to ensuring this historic structure stands tall for another 150 years through this community fundraiser. We invite you to join our efforts and show your support as we honor our past and look forward to the future.

Though no longer an active parish, the Church has found new life as a cultural venue — hosting weddings, concerts, craft fairs, parties, music festivals, and community events. It remains a place where stories are shared, milestones are celebrated, and the spirit of the community lives on.
Historic buildings require care.
